Today, the company announced a new version of the app for Android phones that specifically addresses this issue. It is now possible to see when other users are immediately reachable on Hangouts via a green (available) or grey (not available) icon on their contact picture. Additionally, Google has made it easier to browse through your contacts when starting a hangout and easier to access invites to hangouts. The update is rolling out to the Play Store now and should be available for most users over the next few days. We expect that Google will update the iOS and desktop versions of Hangouts with similar features in the near future.
\n
Follow topics and authors from this story to see more like this in your personalized homepage feed and to receive email updates.

Dan Seifert \n
Close
\n

\n
\n
Last published Jan 8, 2024
\n
\n
Posts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.
\n
Follow Follow
\nSee All by Dan Seifert
\n\n
", "entities": [], "favicon_colors": [{"color": [0, 0, 0], "weight": 0.000244140625}, {"color": [71, 10, 255], "weight": 0.000244140625}], "keywords": [], "published": 1380140208000, "provider_name": "The Verge", "type": "html"}
