Nokia whipped social media users up into a frenzy when it announced the launch via the cryptic tweet: \"Lumia1020 + UK = this Thursday\"

Thursday night saw the launch of Nokia's latest smartphone: the Lumia 1020.

\n

The company announced its new product in a slightly unconventional way, with a tweet that simply said: \"#Lumia1020 + UK = this Thursday.\"

\n

Lumia 1020's biggest selling point is its camera - which blows all of its rivals out of the park.

\n

Conor Pierce, of Nokia UK and Ireland, said: \"It is clear that there is a strong appetite for a smartphone with such unrivaled image taking capabilities.

\n

\"The ability to express your imaging creativity and then share instantly really does put this phone in a class of its own.\"

\n

But what does the Lumia 1020 actually have up its sleeve? Here are the top 10 things you need to know about Nokia's latest offering.

\n

10. Nokia's latest smartphone is running on the very latest Amber version of Windows Phone 8 - so it comes with all of the latest goodies from Microsoft.

\n

These include the Kid's Corner (so they can play games without sending chain emails on to your whole office), an updated flow keyboard, a better browser and more control over the on-screen tiles.

\n

You also get 7GB of free online storage via Microsoft's SkyDrive service.

\n

9. It's got a 4.5-inch screen that has an 1280 x 768 pixel AMOLED HD+ display, and the casing is just 10mm thick, albeit with just a 2mm bulge for the camera lens.

\n

8. It's got a powerful dual-core processor, the 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4. This gives it some serious oomph - and ups it to an impressive 2GB of RAM.

\n

7. The true star of the show is the phone's 41MP back-facing camera - putting it way above its competitors.

\n

It has a Carl Zeiss lens, Xenon flash, and a large F2.2 aperture.

\n

Because 41MP photos are too huge to share online, it automatically scales your photos down to 5MP. This means you get the clarity of a higher-quality camera, but can still share your photos easily.

\n

6. The camera also has 3x lossless digital zoom - and it will save a version of the full unzoomed-in scene as well as the zoomed-in version.

\n

5. It's also capable of HD video recording at 1080p and 30 frames per second.

4. On top of all of that, there's also a 1.2MP forward-facing camera.

3. The phone is currently available on O2 and Three networks - with prices ranging from £12 to £38 a month, depending on the terms of the contract.
